The swim and dive teams continue to be one of our most popular summer programs!  The coaching staff is comprised of highly skilled and trained aquatics professionals who combine hard work, fun, and sportsmanship to create a team environment that nurtures our swimmers and keeps them coming back year after year.  Georgetown competes in the WISC (Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference) group that focuses on teaching kids about competitive swimming while preserving the fun that goes along with this great sport.

Teams practice five days a week and workout groups are established by age and ability.  Placement in our swimming groups is determined by the swimmer's skill in the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.  Each group emphasizes a different level of skill development.  A good measure of your child's readiness for the team is if he/she can swim one length of the pool unassisted.  Beginning divers will learn the basic hurdle and approach as well as a variety of dives, and experienced divers will be encouraged to reach their full potential.

*Please note: all Georgetown Penguin families are required to sign up for at least 2 volunteer positions during the season to ensure that we can fulfill our team responsibilities during the swim and dive season.  Thank you!

Penguin Development is for students who have mastered Level 3 skills and are interested in preparing for competitive swimming.  The course will focus on fine-tuning and building endurance for the strokes taught in Level 3.  The butterfly stroke will be introduced and worked on extensively, along with the other three competitive strokes, turns, and starts.  The goal is to prepare participants for the final two dual swim meets of the WISC season.  Participating in these last two meets will qualify participants for championships.  While school is still in session (May 28 - June 13) practice will be Monday - Thursday 6:15 - 7:00 PM.  From June 17 - July 18 practice will be 10:00 - 10:45 AM.

Building on previous ability, the main goal of this group is to help juniors continue to build fundamental tennis skills in the realms of technique, court movement, and shot selection.  Along with this, rallying and scoring will be introduced.  This is a perfect choice for kids with some experience who want to challenge themselves.  This would also be a great choice for older kids who are looking to start playing tennis.  The group lessons will consist of competitive games and drills with individualized instruction to create a dynamic and upbeat backdrop in a group setting.
